Best Time to Travel to Jamaica

July 14 //  by Suzy Peterson

Jamaica is considered as one of the best islands for beach lovers. The crystal blue water and the tropical and lush weather of the place give visitors some really exciting vacation goals. The temperature here has very less variation throughout the year and it is more towards mild or slightly hot.

However, it may rain quite a lot in a couple of rainy seasons in the country. Moreover, several other factors such as festive season and peak times, etc. would help in determining that what could be the best time to visit Jamaica so that you could have the most of your time there.

#1, Understanding Climate of Jamaica

Jamaica is known for its tropical climate and this in a way means that you will experience warm weather generally on the island throughout the year. However, there are very slight variations in weather between summer and winter. The warmest days in Jamaica are in July where you can expect the maximum temperature to hover around 91 degrees F on average.

The coldest weather is expected in January with temperatures going down to 82 degrees F on average. So, there is no considerable change in the weather between summer and winter.

If your destination in Jamaica is Kingston or Ocho Rios then the weather here will be slightly hot in winters as compared to Montego Bay or Negril. If the weather matters you the most then this section has got all that you need.

#2, Festive Season

If you are looking for fun with your travel mates and locals then Jamaica has got some cool events for you to enjoy. The best of all is the Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival.

It takes place in Montego Bay in January every year. Kingston is the best-known spot in Jamaica for its turquoise color water at the beaches. The popular and fun-filled event of Bob Marley is organized there in February every year.

It is a weeklong celebration and something that fun lovers shouldn’t miss if they are in Kingston in February. Negril is another destination in Jamaica to host the Bob Marley Birthday bash. It is also celebrated in February.

Carnivals are organized in all islands of Jamaica in early April. Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay is another key event to consider on your trip if it is in July.

#3, Lower Count of Visitors

Tropical places receive a lot of rainfall and Jamaica is no different. If you don’t want to keep yourself locked in your resort then avoid traveling to Jamaica particularly from September to November. This is the time when Jamaica Island receives a maximum amount of rainfall. The central mountain regions receive more rain than any other part of the larger island.

However, if you are lucky in your traveling days in Jamaica then you may find the island to be dry or just an occasional spell. As compared to the other months of the year, the place has lesser visitors. In a good way, budget travelers who are willing to take the risk with rain could find cheaper flights to Jamaica along with affordable accommodation as well.

In a broader range, June to November is considered an off-peak season in Jamaica. This off-peak season is best to take cruise ship coming into the island and your stay on the cruise in itself will be a great experience.

#4, Peak Season

Winter is considered a peak season in Jamaica, which falls from mid-December to mid-April. The weather in these months is relatively cooler and this results in a huge influx of tourists in Jamaica. It could be an exciting time but the excessive crowd of tourists coming these days asks you to book your flight and accommodation at least three months before your holidays. If not then you will be risking for no availability or at least, paying a lot more than you should have paid.

#5, Cheapest Month to Fly to Jamaica

February comes right after the end of the peak tourist season in Jamaica. It is the cheapest month and the weather isn’t bad either. During this time, you will find the best and the most affordable hotel deals in Jamaica. Further, the flights during this time will also be cheaper. You can enjoy it a lot and save a fortune by booking for this month in advance.

If you ar eon a budget, the budget deals may also be availed because there are plenty of travel deals that will let you enjoy the true essence of holidays in Jamaica. Also, while choosing the travel destination and the time when you are going there may be linked because the peak seasons always make sure the fares will be higher than average.

Finally, we can surely say that Jamaica is a great place with multiple islands and known mostly for its awesome beaches and tropical weather.

The weather variation is not much throughout the year, but you can expect frequent rains from September till November. So be ready to cope with that or else you may need to tackle a few things for this as well.

June till November is the time with a lesser crowd in almost all islands of Jamaica. December onwards the peak season starts, which lasts till April. The weather is relatively colder in these months as compared to other months of the year.

February is the cheapest month to travel. Conclusively, November and December is the best time to visit Jamaica, which is lesser crowded and has moderate weather with occasional chances of rain. February is a close second for availing reasonable holiday deals and experiencing a moderate climate with lesser chances of rain so you can go for it if that suits your planned holidays to this region.

Hopefully, with better planning and better selection of time, you can surely enjoy the time spend in Jamaica. These could be your dream holidays if you have researched the places that you will visit in the best possible time of the year.
